PSS : Plastic Surgery...

This week Monica asked, "What are your thoughts on plastic surgery? Would you ever do it yourself? Why or why not."

I think plastic surgery is fabulous, to a point. I do think you can have too much done and then it's just not pretty anymore. I think that if it would make you feel better about yourself, more confident, and you can afford it...then it's great! I would do it in a heart beat, but I can't justify going into debt for it unless it was for a medical reason. Don't get me wrong, I often think -dream- about getting the "Mommy Package" done. That's where they go and put everything back to where it was before you became pregnant the first time, lift the boobs back up, take the tummy, hips and thighs back down :) But it's just not going to happen any time soon...I can think of a lot of vacations I'd rather take!

PSS : Letter to me

This week Amy asked us to write a letter to our 12 year old self based on our life experiences and knowledge we have now and what advice would you give?

Letter to me!

Dear Heidi,

You are in the sixth grade and have yet to experience much of what life has to offer. As you go into the seventh grade you will start hanging out with friend that you love, however, you will get into a ton of trouble during the next 3 years. I wouldn't trade it for anything! Enjoy causing your Dad all of the gray hairs that will eventually get. Both you and him will live through it...however, the phone in your room will not :( Ease up on your old Mom, she will become one of your best friends. And that little sister that is such a pain in the bahookie, yep...another one you can't live without (I know, I know...you think I'm lying to you but it's true!).

High School...Don't worry so much about what other people think, try everything that sounds fun, and keep harassing the girl that lockers next to you, Care Bear, she loves it...still ;) . I am sure that if you put even just a little bit of effort into your school work, you could raise that B average to an A average. BE ON TIME TO CLASS! The hours and hours of community service are not worth being just a few minutes late. As far as sluffing goes, if you call your mom with a really good reason, she will excuse you!(I didn't find that out until my senior year, take advantage of it before I did) When it comes to boys...I'm sorry to say, but you will get your heart broken a time or two. But I can tell you that Mom is wrong about one of them, just follow your instincts about the boy across the hall at the mall, he's a real keeper...your Mom comes to love him more than she loves you sometimes :). You will love Joel more than you know possible, and will eventually be sealed to him and your kids. It will be one of the greatest days of your life!

Once you graduate life becomes amazing...slow down and enjoy it bit more than I did. I know you think that you can't, but you really can go finish college and spend time with your husband. I only have a few things for you to keep in mind...When your doctor tells you to double up on birth control while on a prescription...list to her. We'll never mind, that turns out okay - He's a hand full, but you love him dearly ;) and the little sister that follows, will complete your amazing family. Make a few specials trips to see Grandpa S., Uncle Doug, Uncle Paul, Uncle Bud and Terry...you lose them without any warning.

So, to quote Brad Paisley -

"You've got so much up ahead
You'll make new friends
You should see your kids and wife (husband)
And I'd end up saying have no fear
These are nowhere near the best years of your life"

Oh, one more thing...When you take your dog, Jake, camping with you...remember to keep the windows rolled up. It will save you and your kids a ton of heart ache! So, just relax and enjoy the ride, I DID!

~Heidi

Valentines Day

This year for Valentines Day we spent the day with the kids then shipped them off to their Grandma's to spend the night! The day started at the gym, I had to get in my 2 miles, then we took the kids to Toads Fun Zone. We all had a great time. We went with my brother and his two boys (for his son's, Colton, 12th birthday), a bunch of other 12 year old's that I didn't know and Hailey, Ky's friend. Yes, the poor boy's birthday is on Valentines Day, his wife is going to hate that!

After my husband had his fun slaughtering me in laser tag, we spent WAY to much time and money playing arcade games and eating pizza. It was a great way to spend a snowy winter day.

For dinner we met with the entire clan at La Ferrovia to finish up Colton's birthday celebration! After dinner we dropped off the kids, then Joel and I spent the evening together relaxing in peace and quite! We made a quick stop at Maverick for frozen yogurt and a couple of Red Box movies. I found out the hard way why I will never read a Nicholas Sparks novel... :( We watched Nights in Rodanthe...very sad, sorry if I ruined it for you.

Overall, Valentines Day was great!

PSS : Valentines Day

This week Kim D. asked, "Have you had a best and/or worst Valentine's Day? Tell us about it/them..."

WORST:

The worst valentines day I've had happen the year that Joel and I were dating. It was our first valentines together, and I happened to have my molars pulled out that day. So, I was home in pain recovering, then Joel showed up after he got off work
with yellow roses and chocolates rolled in nuts. Which if you know me, you know that I HATE NUTS (which Joel also knew) and if you know roses...you know that yellow roses mean friendship (which Joel didn't know). So as I was setting there with swollen cheeks, hives, and in extreme pain, (later we found out that the surgeon had sewn my cheek to my gums...causing the pain, hives, swelling and MAJOR infection) I thought for sure Joel was going to give me the "can we go back to just being friends" speech.

I started to cry and he just sat there in shock not knowing what to do. My Mom came into my room wondering what was going on. I said, in tear
s, look what Joel gave me for valentines day...showing her the candy covered in nuts and the yellow roses. She started to laugh and explained to Joel, remember Heidi hates nuts and NO girl wants yellow roses on valentines day, unless it's a friend. So, then they were both laughing. Joel then told us that HIS MOM picked it all out because he was running late and he didn't really think about it, trying to get over to see me.

Still to this day when Joel buys me roses... I get half red and half yellow, isn't he adorable :)

BEST:

The best valentines day I've had was in February of 2003.
Joel spent weeks designing a software program for me, it was an amazing scavenger hunt. When I woke up in the morning I found this note on his pillow....

Going from our bed to the couch downstairs was a trail made of white and red paper hearts. On the couch I found the CD with more paper hearts and red roses made out of paper hearts...

Each direction took me to the next heart with code on it, which I would enter into the program, and then it would tell me where to find the next heart.

At the end, behind the couch cushion was a green velvet box. Inside the box was a gold bracelet made out of hearts...

YOUR THE BEST, I LOVE YOU JOEL!

Today I went to meet with the Ogden City Prosecutor about my speeding & failure to stop ticket. While walking into the courthouse, I ran into a "family friend" in the parking lot. After telling him why I was there, he started making fun of me, surprise - surprise, and then told me he would make sure to be in there to laugh at me... However, once inside the courthouse, my friend, came to my rescue! I owe him big time :o)

When all was said and done, I only had to pay half of the fee and if I don't get another ticket for 6 months...the points will never go on my record! It's called a plea in abeyance. It is an agreement that allows the court to dismiss your violation(s) upon completion of certain criteria. My criteria being that I don't get another ticket for 6 months.

When leaving the courthouse the Prosecutor told me that I owe my friend big time. He also said that if I do get another ticket in the next 6 months, he is sure my friend will hunt me down and take me to jail himself...which I know is true, lol!

This is the same friend that came to my rescue and helped me graduate from high school. I am sure I hold the record for needing the most community service hours to graduate at Bonneville High School (tardies killed me... and skipping class one or two times didn't help either ;) I spent many hours with this friend fulfilling my hours. However, he is also the friend that if I got into trouble with my parents, and he found out, he would come over to our house and hand cuff me to a hall closet door for hours on end. He scared me in my younger days...seriously! My dad and this friend thought it was hilarious... I DID NOT!

To my friend, if you read this... Thank you! Thank you! You have been with me through the good, the bad, and the ugly and thanks for being there for me again today! You are absolutely fabulous :o)

P.S. I call him my "friend" in this blog, because if he ever found out I posted his name in a blog on the internet...I would see him a lot sooner than I would like and it would not be pretty, lol!

This is what we woke up to this morning...I am so over snow, totally done with it for the year. I would really like to see spring. Yesterday I was so excited that all of the snow had finally melted in our yard and now this again. YUCK! Well, at least it will give Ry something to do when he gets home from school. He loves to use the snow blower.

The weekend was fun... Ry had his first boy/girl late night birthday party, at Hannah's, on Friday night and Ky went to spend the night at my parents house. She loved not having to share the attention with her brother. Ry came home covered in makeup :) The girls attacked him and you could tell that he loved every minute of it. On Saturday Ry went out to lunch and fishing with Joel's dad and Ky went to a birthday party at the Ice Sheet in Ogden. She was pretty worn out after three hours of ice skating.

Saturday night Joel and I took the kids to see Paul Blart: Mall Cop. It was a really cute family movie, both of the kids enjoyed it. After seeing a chic flick and then kid show, you could tell Joel is in need of a good guy movie...Maybe I'll call his brother and see if he'll take him :o)

On Sunday all four us went to church together, woohoo! We haven't made it to church the last couple of weeks, and it seemed harder and harder to get there. After church most of my immediate family came over for dinner. It was cute to watch Bodee, my nephew, jam'n out on the Wii microphone with the older kids, he is sooo stink'n cute!

Tomorrow is when I get to appear in court for my ticket :( Joel keeps telling me to talk to the prosecutor. He keeps saying, "Just go in and see what he says". I know what he'll say, "Quit speeding and be sure to stop at all stop signs!" I my defense I was out in the middle of Timbuktu on a Sunday night and I did slow WAY down for the stop sign, but I now know that's not good enough. There wasn't a moving thing in site. I am not even sure where the officer came from...

Either way it's going be a very expensive lesson... Lesson learned.... Use cruise control when coming home from my brother's house out in Timbuktu! As far as the stop sign goes... since getting the ticket, with both of my kids in the car, Ry has pointed out the I rarely come to a complete stop at a stop sign, so I am pretty much doomed. Old habits die hard, lol :) Hey, I have never claimed to be the world's best driver...

That week was just a really bad week for me....Two days later I got a parking ticket in Ogden :( At least it was a non-moving violation and only $10!

PSS : Incurable disease...

This week Kim E. asked, "If you were told you have an incurable disease, and have less than a year to live. Would you take treatment, that would make you sick, but be able to live more than a year. Or have only the quoted time and be healthy for most it? And.. what would you do with the time?"

Okay, after taking my time thinking about this...and reading other responses...I agree, 100%, with MOST of what Kim said. Her response was:

"If after getting second and third opinions, it was found that I truly was incurable, I would take the time I had being healthy and go with it. Living for a year or more, sick, to me really wouldn't be living. I would hope I can make my peace with what I had left and fill every day.
I would want to travel, at first, with my family and friends.. anyone who could make it. To see all the places on my list, fill my mind with wonder and help build memories of me in my love ones minds. I would continue to look for options to make sure nothing new has come available for my condition, but not dwell on it. I would make sure all my journals and scrapbooks were caught up. I would write.. I would write letters to everyone, I would write letters through time for my family, I would give away my stuff, so my family didn't have to deal with it. I would throw myself a funeral party that I could attend. I would buy/make thoughtful gifts to be given to my loved ones for special times in their lives. I would make sure everything was arranged for the kids, so their would be no legal issues after my death. I would only eat foods that were fantastic."

I could not have wrote it better...so I sole it! She then went on about leaving her family to die alone...sad :( Don't do it Kim, lol! I'm sure your family will remember the good times, not you on your death bed. They will, and do, want to be there for you :o)

I have never had anyone in my immediate family pass away, knock on wood, but when they do - I hope that I am there to hold their hand and tell them how much I love them and will miss them, and I hope they will all be there with me when my time comes :( which I hope and pray is not for another 60-70 years!

OKAY - NEXT WEEK - A HAPPY QUESTION PLEASE!

A Long Weekend :(

Friday I started the weekend with another girls lunch, this week at Chili's. Yeah! NORMAL FOOD! I have known these ladies for a few years, but it has been a blast getting to know them better. Friday night, while Joel and I went out on a much needed date, Ry played in another soccer game and he scored 3 out of the 6 goals! However they did lose by two points, final score 6-8 :( After the game, my brother took Ry and Ky over to Joel's parents house where they stayed until late Saturday.

For our date, Joel and I, went to the Prairie Schooner and then to a movie. Dinner was good, but it's definitely not my favorite steak house. The movie I picked was "New In Town" with Renee Zellweger. I thought it was very cute, but it was definitely a chic flick, and I am sure Joel would have preferred that I went to see it with my sister. However, he didn't complain and I love him for being a trooper! I made up for it with a lame guy movie we rented on Saturday night.

Saturday Joel and I went to lunch at the Training Table and then down my Mom's house for my aunt Shirley's 80th birthday party. She is cute as a button and I can see my mom becoming more and more like her sister, Shirley, all the time. I have to give another shout out to my wonderful husband who endured the house full of women for over two hours. I am positive he was hugged 45 times by all of my cousins and crazy old aunts, but he took it with a smile. He's fabulous!

Then the real fun began...

When we got home from my Mom's house, we walked into a flooded kitchen. Which is never a good thing for wood floors. After some investigation we found that the water hose in the back of our side by side refrigerator had sprung a major leak. While cleaning that up, Joel also discover that the toilet in the main bathroom also had issues. So we spent the evening running to get parts and making our repairs. The wood floor is warped pretty bad, but I am hoping once it dries out completely, it will go back down. If it doesn't we might be replacing our kitchen floor in the near future. Saturday night we watched that lame guy movie, I can't even remember the name...

AND THEN...

Sunday morning we woke up to the worst smell possible. We went room to room trying to find what was causing the smell... Two hours later we discovered that when the hose to the refrigerator broke it also leaked underneath into our crawl space, where we had laid carpet for the kids when they were smaller, turning it into a toy room. We had gotten the large piece of carpet from Joel's parent house when they replaced all of their carpet. Old carpet + lots of water = SMELLY MESS! Once the kids were too tall to go into their toy room we had begun filling it with stuff that needed to be stored. So we spent the entire day trying to get everything out of the way, cutting the wet carpet out in chunks, and hauling it outside... All before we were supposed to be to my brothers house for the Super Bowl party. Being late would have been bad!

The game was fun...the food was fantastic...the family and friends were fabulous! I was cheering for the Cardinals... they almost had it, but in the end I think everyone knew the Steelers would win. Ry was thrilled the Steelers won and it was fun watching him react during the last few minutes. The party was the best! Thanks again Brent and Christi, you two are simply wonderful!

Game Day!

I can hardly wait! Gotta love it!
