Camping Trip

Our camping trip started on Thursday afternoon. We met my parents at the Oakley Polar King for an early dinner...it's the best place for shakes before you head up the mirror lake highway. Then it was time to TRY to find a camping spot...yes, it's crazy, but we had NO idea where we were going to camp. My parents drove up a week earlier and all the spots that looked big enough for all of us were first come first serve - no reservations accepted. We lucked out and were able to get 3 spots that would hold all 4 of the families at the lost creek campground.

Brent and Susie, with their families, got there eventually.... So I might have told them the wrong lake, but to my credit, I DID tell them the right directions, they just chose to go a different way to the wrong lake, lol ;) They did eventually find us thanks to the 2 way radio's we have...channel 8.4! At first Joel could hear them, but they couldn't hear him. It sounded like they were close to giving up and just finding a spot for the night. But thanks to the radio's and my mom standing in the middle of road....don't ask (shakes head), they found us before it got too dark.

Friday and Saturday was full of fishing, long bike rides, walks to find wild flowers, and just being lazy, it was great!! I read two books while we were gone, there isn't a better way to spend a weekend! Saturday afternoon Joel's family crashed in on us for tin foil dinners and a few hours of fishing. We knew Judd, Joel's brother, was coming up but his parents surprised us by dropping in also! Around the time they arrived, so did a big thunder storm.... I don't think I have ever been camping in the Uinta Mountains without it raining at least once. The rain, thunder and lightening only lasted about 30 -45 minutes - just long enough to get everything soaked! Later that night we broke out the paper lanterns, tiki torches, and cake to celebrate my Dad's birthday.

Sunday morning, after a quick fishing trip and muffins for breakfast, we all headed home to MUCH NEEDED showers! Overall it was a great weekend, full of lots of laughter...mostly at me and my sister's expense, but it was all good :) That black dog TOTALLY could have been a black bear...cub!! That's our story and we are sticking to it, LOL!!

Silly Boys...

The other day Ry came in and asked if him and his friend, Chris, could take his soft air guns out of the trailer and go down the field by our house and shoot at empty pop cans. I, being the not so bright parent, thought that would be fine. The field is just a couple houses away and so I told them to go ahead.

The next thing I know, Ry is walking home with this "look". You know what I mean...a mom always knows when her child has done something wrong because they get this look on their cute little faces. So, I start walking to meet him and I notice that he is sucking on his lower lip with tears in his eyes. He then starts telling me about how Chris's older brother (14) came down with his soft air gun and had convinced them that it would be fun to shoot at each other, like a laser tag game, running and hiding from each other. It didn't take long before Ry got shot in the lip, Chris got shot in the neck, and the older brother walked away without a scratch - surprise, surprise!!

It was one of those moments that my brain told me that a good parent would get mad and yell at him - HE SHOULD KNOW BETTER, SOMEONE COULD HAVE LOST AN EYE! - but, I just started laughing, bad mom...I know, and made him come inside so I could get my camera. You could tell that the pain was enough punishment and hopefully he'll remember that the next time someone wants to play tag with a gun! Now the guns are locked back up safely in our trailer - where they will stay until we go camping when he can use them, with his Dad, to shoot at empty pop cans!

YW Girls Camp

Roy West Stake Girls Camp 2009
June 15th - 18th
Theme: Finding N.E.M.O.
(New Everyday Missionary Opportunities)

This was my second year being involved as a camp director. I love this calling!! This year was stake camp, over 100 girls, compared to last years was ward camp, about 25 girls. I think I prefer ward camp, just because we have the opportunity to plan the entire camp, making it more flexible.

Monday and Tuesday were perfect... Good weather, fun activities, and wonderful speakers. By Wednesday the lightening, thunder, and rain started and never stopped till we got home Thursday late morning. YUCK! Tons of mud, wet tents sleeping bags, and BAD HAIR!!

The high light of Wednesday, for me, was when we joined with the West Lake Ward (picture above) for songs and games! A LITTLE HISTORY... We used to be in the Midland Ward, but last October "they" divided the ward in two and the eliminated the Midland Ward :( It was a difficult time. Half went to the Country Lane Ward and the other half went to the West Lake Ward. So it was wonderful for the girls AND the leaders to be back together at camp. We had SO much fun!!

By Wednesday night I think we were ALL ready to go home. All of us had to huddle under a large blue trap, with water streaming down the sides, for a very wet testimony meeting. It was the shortest testimony meeting I have ever been to. The girls endured another wet, cold night and then we started packing at 6:30 am and made it home by 10:00am! That's the fastest I have seen those girls move :) We have been home for a few weeks now, and I am already in camp planning mode for next year - I can't seem to turn it off!! I am so excited for ward camp next year, we are going to have a great time - NO 7am Devotional!!
