Love of Reading...

It looks like Ky did get something from me after all...the love to read! Most nights she is so quite that were sure she is asleep, but I'll go into turn out the light and she's still wide awake reading. Right now she in the middle of reading The Candy Shop War, by Brandon Mull, author of the Fablehaven series. I haven't read it myself but she say's it's about Mrs. White who owns a candy shop where she makes magical candy and the adventure she send four friends on :)

Parent Teacher Conferences....

Well, miracles do happen. I wouldn't believe it I didn't see it for myself......
Ry has accomplished something Joel or I never did!

HE MADE THE HONOR ROLL!!

This year the sixth grade teachers are introducing to the students some of the things that will happen next year, like grade point averages. I noticed the list while waiting in the hall for his parent teacher conference....YEAH!!

GOOD JOB RY!!

His conference went great and we could tell that he is really enjoying his teacher this year. It's really cute to watch the two of them tease and interact with each other. All of his test showed that's he's right at where he should be or a little higher. I'm also thrilled that he had no missing assignments, even though he has had some sick days and also misses class due to being a peer leader this year. Being a peer leader has been a great experience this year. It is teaching him a lot about thinking about others first. He's really starting to mature and grow up...too fast!

Then we walked down the hall to Ky's parent teacher conference and found that, she too, is doing very well. During the first quarter of school she mastered multiplication, got perfect 4's (A's...which she was sure to point out to Ry that he got a couple of 3.5's ;) and her test result showed that she is reading at a 7th grade level. Ky is more reserved with her teacher but you can tell that Ky really enjoys the ways her teacher makes teaching fun. They play lots of games and do a lot of hands on activities. Ky also accomplished something that Joel and I never did...she went all quarter without missing a day! I also think her art work is adorable, I love they way she drew herself and answered the statements.....notice she didn't forget the pink in her hair :)

October...

A lot has been going on this month...I'm going to skim over a few of the bigger things.

My brother, Brent, has season tickets to the Jazz games. He gave us the tickets to the first regular season home game. Ky thought she was being tortured by being made to go...the foam bear claw was her bribe :) We started the night at The Training Table, were we ended up running into the fabulous Taylor family! (We should run into each other again soon :)

Brent's four seats are on the second row of the upper level, they were great! I'm hoping to be employee of the month a few more times ;) Ky loved watching the Bear and Ry thought it was great that his friend Jayden, and Jayden's dad, Kelly, had seats three rows up from us. Kelly ended up watching the game with us and Ry went up to watch the game with Jayden. Even though the Jazz didn't win, we had a great time! Thanks Brent!

Yes, the purple strip in her hair is permanent...Not sure what I was thinking :)
But she LOVES it and it's only hair, right?

A few weeks ago, on a Friday night, Ry came home from school and said, "Mom, I hurt my foot playing soccer during P.E. today....can I go fishing?" So, I thought he must be fine. Later that night, after fishing, he started complaining...Joel went into his room and noticed it was swollen and thought we should take him into Wee Care pediatrics for an x-ray. (I love wee care...they only charge your regular co-pay no matter what time it is....every where else charges my $40 after hour co-pay any time from 5:00pm Friday to 8am Monday morning.)

The doctor told us that it looked sprained and that he thought Ry's foot was "made that way" (his words...) but, if we wanted an x-ray while we were there he would take one. I said that since we were already there, let's take the x-ray, leaving no doubt... He came back and said the x-ray looked normal. We went home.... Monday afternoon came around and I got a phone call from Wee Care saying I needed to bring Ry back in for a cast, it was definitely broken! So at 9pm on Monday night we went back for a cast. It's been a long few weeks for me so I can only imagine how long it's felt to him...it comes off this weekend! I think we'll party :)

Ry and the rest of the peer leaders held a fundraiser night at All American Pizza Grill. They helped deliver orders, get refills, clean tables...and generally annoyed customers ;)
They made 20% of the profit for the night and about $60 in tips!

This year my side of the family held the annual Halloween party at my brother's house. This year the pumpkin carving went much faster than in year's past. Rich, Brent's friend, brought over his...power tool thingy. Once the kids cleaned out their pumpkins, they drew the design on their pumpkins with permanent marker and then Rich spent 24 seconds cutting the design out! It was FABULOUS!! I will never go back to carving pumpkins the "old fashion" way again :)

Pier One

Last month I started working nights with Susie at Pier One. My shift begins at 7pm on Sunday and we work setting up Christmas displays until 1am. Sounds easy and fun, but it can KICK YOUR BUTT! Susie and I worked together on this tree for over a hour....it was crazy the amount of stuff we had to jam on that poor tree. I started out making is pretty and kept moving the stuff Susie put on, lol. She kept saying "don't worry about making it pretty, it won't matter in the long run". She was right...go figure ;) This poor picture doesn't do it justice...it was UGLY! Working at Pier One for the holidays has it perks....extra Christmas money, a great employee discount, and I get to work with my BFS (Best Friend/Sister! ;). What could be better than that?
