Such a stinker!

Ky has been complaining about her heel hurting for a while now :( I, being the not so great Mom, thought she had probably hurt it at recess and was using it as an excuse...hurting at convenient times. However, after talking to her teacher at school and having a few bad morning and nights with it, I took her to the doctor on Friday. After a few x-rays it showed that she has plantar fasciitis. Plantar Fasciitis occurs when the long fibrous plantar fascia ligament along the bottom of the foot develops tears in the tissue resulting in pain and inflammation.

What causes this?? Going barefoot...that's my girl (I hate shoes), Bad shoes...flip flops and tons of other cute but non-supportive shoes, running on hard surfaces...playground, and jumping/tumbling...when is she not. So, she does/has all the things that causes it, we are doomed. It will be a miracle if we can cure on our own.

The cure for plantar fasciitis should begin with rest, icing it, and over the counter medications. Her Pediatrician told us that she should rest, stay off of it, for 4 days... REST?? WHAT?? You would have thought somebody had shot her! She started crying, saying it was going to be like she was grounded. Oh boy, the tears that can come from this child is scary. The doctor then said that if it did not get better within a week, which it should if she stayed off of it, we then would have to follow up with an Orthopedic (?) (child bone and muscle doctor), who could recommend foot supports, a cast, physical therapy, and or surgery (I think he was trying to scare her into staying off of it). GREAT! FABULOUS! (sigh) I was pretty sure he should just schedule the appointment now, keeping this child off of her feet is and was next to impossible.

Well after a long weekend of doing next to nothing and trying to keep her off of it, it is still hurting her...surprise, surprise!! So, now I am left with either taking her out of school for a few days and duct taping her to the couch/bed, or calling this specialist...Hmmm. I am thinking that casting it, so she can't bend it, is a great idea. Does this make me a terrible mother?? Oh well, maybe I'll win some kind of award, lol :)
