Our camping trip started on Thursday afternoon. We met my parents at the Oakley Polar King for an early dinner...it's the best place for shakes before you head up the mirror lake highway. Then it was time to TRY to find a camping spot...yes, it's crazy, but we had NO idea where we were going to camp. My parents drove up a week earlier and all the spots that looked big enough for all of us were first come first serve - no reservations accepted. We lucked out and were able to get 3 spots that would hold all 4 of the families at the lost creek campground.
Brent and Susie, with their families, got there eventually.... So I might have told them the wrong lake, but to my credit, I DID tell them the right directions, they just chose to go a different way to the wrong lake, lol ;) They did eventually find us thanks to the 2 way radio's we have...channel 8.4! At first Joel could hear them, but they couldn't hear him. It sounded like they were close to giving up and just finding a spot for the night. But thanks to the radio's and my mom standing in the middle of road....don't ask (shakes head), they found us before it got too dark.
Friday and Saturday was full of fishing, long bike rides, walks to find wild flowers, and just being lazy, it was great!! I read two books while we were gone, there isn't a better way to spend a weekend! Saturday afternoon Joel's family crashed in on us for tin foil dinners and a few hours of fishing. We knew Judd, Joel's brother, was coming up but his parents surprised us by dropping in also! Around the time they arrived, so did a big thunder storm.... I don't think I have ever been camping in the Uinta Mountains without it raining at least once. The rain, thunder and lightening only lasted about 30 -45 minutes - just long enough to get everything soaked! Later that night we broke out the paper lanterns, tiki torches, and cake to celebrate my Dad's birthday.
Sunday morning, after a quick fishing trip and muffins for breakfast, we all headed home to MUCH NEEDED showers! Overall it was a great weekend, full of lots of laughter...mostly at me and my sister's expense, but it was all good :) That black dog TOTALLY could have been a black bear...cub!! That's our story and we are sticking to it, LOL!!
